The Caldran VIRGO staging is the deception in which Jack Kaiden appears to use VIRGO against artificial people while secretly refusing to activate it.
Libertix forces agree in advance to stage compliance. The performance ends the immediate confrontation without Jack using the autonomy weapon, but X3 believes he has witnessed genuine control. When X3 later discovers the truth, the humiliation and contradiction contribute to his crisis and his anger toward Jack.
Jack did possess VIRGO at Caldran. The deception concerns whether he activated it, not whether the program existed.
