¶ Omitted Events
Branel shields his father after most of the raiders have been killed. Frosnik surrenders, and Jack chooses to spare them. Father and son then return the BioGel and winter supplies stolen from the colony.
Removing the encounter conceals both the presence of a child in the encampment and Jack's decision to let Frosnik live. The narrative does not establish whether anyone later discovers the alteration or whether Jack faces formal review.

Three winters later, an anonymous visitor strongly indicated to be Jack reaches Branel through a wormhole while dressed as Santa and leaves gifts. The private act continues the mercy hidden by the report.
