Synthetic Yvonne Kaiden claims continuity with biological Yvonne after scanning and reconstruction. Artificial John is instead a separately created person modeled from biological John's records. The multiple Jacks and Mistresses created through temporal events add cases in which memory and relationship continue without a single uninterrupted body or instance.
The canon does not impose one universal answer. Body, memory, self-identification, relationships, origin, and uninterrupted operation all provide evidence without functioning as an automatic test.
