Patricia Ashworth, often called Patty, is the Kaiden family's middle-aged neighbor in Modesto. She helps care for Yvonne Kaiden and infant Jack Kaiden while John Kaiden is deployed and Kayla Kaiden is imprisoned.
Patricia prepares Jack's bottles, watches his early development, and assists Yvonne with school projects. When John returns home, she gives him an honest account of both children rather than minimizing what his absence has cost. After John tells Yvonne that Kayla will not return soon, Patricia gathers the pieces of Yvonne's broken Marie Curie diorama and confronts him about what he said.
