The Vantam Rift is a region containing major Occulum deposits and the mine where Jack and Owo confront Shard-host X3. Concentrated Occulum suppresses entanglement, wormholes, scans, and Talonorium abilities.
¶ Occulum
Occulum was discovered in the Rift and is identified by atomic number 256 and extreme density. Mining exposes concentrations capable of weakening both Jack's emerging attunement and X3's corrupted powers.
¶ Confrontation
Owo and Jack lure X3 into the mine as part of the plan to separate him from the Shard. The environment limits easy escape and reality manipulation.
Owo appeals to X3's pre-Shard identity. X3 admits ordering Z-1408 to assassinate John Kaiden. Jack drops his weapon rather than kill him in grief.
X3 fires at Jack; Owo intercepts the shot and dies. X3 then tears out the Shard through his own agency. Jack cleanses it and transports X3 and Owo to MedBay.
¶ Significance
The Rift demonstrates that Occulum can create a local break in Talonorium power without resolving the underlying moral conflict.
