Talonorium, also called The Element, is a sacred living or person-like substrate capable of memory, bonding, choice, corruption, and healing. It supports wormholes, attunement, foresight, shields, weapons, medical nanites, virtual systems, and Maitdiné life.
Political powers repeatedly treat Talonorium as a strategic mineral, but its response to the Great Healing shows that it can refuse weaponization. Connected Talonorium is cleansed and silences its weapons; one corrupted Shard survives because Occulum isolates it from the network.
Talonorium operates through quantum connection and attunement. Individuals can bond with it, access abilities, and sometimes communicate or act across spacetime. Its capabilities vary with user, concentration, corruption, and consent.
Known applications include ship and personal wormholes, Fahilotian foresight and empathy, shields, weapons, medical nanotechnology, virtual systems, temporal intervention, and Maitdiné existence.
The Element remembers bonds, suffers corruption, responds to care, and chooses whether to answer. Its person-like qualities make extraction and forced weaponization ethical issues rather than merely resource policy.
Moonshade, Jack, Talonor, and others form different bonds with Talonorium. Jack's personal attunement emerges during the Vantam Rift confrontation through empathy and possible forgiveness. Earlier ship travel does not prove that he already possessed that personal bond.
Misuse produces The Rot and corrupted Shards. Symptoms include madness, phasing, disappearance, unstable power, and social collapse. X3's Shard grants temporal and reality-altering abilities while amplifying instability.
At the Temple of Korathis, Jack and Talonor voluntarily release their bonds while Moonshade and the Nine complete the Great Healing. Connected Talonorium is cleansed and refuses further weapon use, neutralizing HexForge. The Occulum-severed ARC Shard remains outside that effect and later requires separate cleansing.
Talonorium is not Occulum. Occulum interrupts the connections on which Talonorium abilities depend. Chloinite is a separate destructive technology.
