Tuernshen is the Warden of the Element and an authority within the faith surrounding Talonorium. He receives visitors from a throne made of pure Talonorium inside the Moonshrine Sanctum.
Jack Kaiden, Talonor, and their companions seek Tuernshen while investigating the Maitdiné and the truth behind religious prophecy. Tuernshen refers to Talonorium as the Element and teaches that it shows its followers a path to salvation.
The discussion unsettles him. Jack's knowledge, the crew's questions, and references to Moonshade expose tension between Tuernshen's public authority and information he would prefer to keep controlled. His confrontation with Cygnus Jun ends with a warning that leaving with the outsiders will end their relationship as warden and disciple.
