The Maitdiné are time-walking beings connected to Talonorium and the repair of spacetime. Htonmin stories describe repairers who intervene when reality fractures; direct appearances substantially corroborate those accounts. Moonshade is the principal named Maitdiné.
Maitdiné help repair the fissures created by Jack and Talonor's temporal history, guide the New Jack crisis, and officiate the Great Healing. Their exact biological, synthetic, extradimensional, or augmented nature remains unresolved.
Maitdiné existence depends on Talonorium. PISCES, a proposed system that would destroy all Talonorium structures, would also kill them. Moonshade prevents its deployment.
They perceive and traverse time differently from ordinary species. Their interventions do not make every timeline outcome fully explained or remove individual agency.
Maitdiné visibly repair a fissure after Talonor proposes to Jack. During the later wedding rupture, Moonshade relocates New Jack, names the combined identity, and arranges the selection process that stabilizes reality.
Moonshade also returns Jack from a possible future involving John's presidential interview.
Moonshade loses and later regains attunement, helps interpret Jack and Talonor's bond, and officiates the Great Healing with the Nine.
Afterward, future Moonshade travels three thousand years into the past, heals the altar fragment, and installs it, completing the closed loop behind the Nine Divine prophecy.
Canon does not fully classify Maitdiné origin, reproduction, social structure, or physical ontology.
