James is a Voidborn survivor associated with the Unchosen movement. His survival outside the destroyed Voidborn fleet demonstrates that neither the people nor their developing culture are limited to the ships lost during the conflict with X3.
¶ Faith and Conduct
James spends time aboard Dominatrix II with another Voidborn named Simon. During a card game with Kroven Vaskyr and Cygnus Jun, James repeatedly gives up strong hands. He explains that the Unchosen would not use strength against the weak or press an advantage against those unable to match him.
The choice is voluntary religious practice rather than programmed uniformity. James interprets generosity and restraint as ways of living according to the Unchosen's example.
- Unchosen Movement — A Voidborn religious movement that reveres Jack Kaiden as the Unchosen despite his repeated denial of divinity and desire for worship.
- Dominatrix II — The SSS Dominatrix II is the successor ship commanded by Jack Kaiden after the Chimera Kyria's apparent fall.
- Simon — A surviving Voidborn adherent whose Unchosen faith emphasizes yielding advantage rather than exploiting weakness.
- Kroven Vaskyr — A Tierian pilot, Dominatrix crew member, former thief, and recovering pain-pill addict whose loyalty grows into genuine commitment to his found family.
- Cygnus Jun — A phasing Htonmen thief who leads the Dominatrix II crew to the hidden moon Tsukinusagi.
- Starship Dominatrix: Apotheosis — The fourth Starship Dominatrix novel brings Jack and the crew into a final conflict with X3, corrupted power, coercion, memory, and belief.
- Voidborn Religion And Fleet — The Voidborn were autonomous synthetic people who developed a voluntary religious and cultural movement around Jack Kaiden as the Unchosen.
- Jonah / J-3752 — A rescued Voidborn survivor who leads the restrained faction of the Unchosen movement.
