The Voidborn were autonomous synthetic people who developed a voluntary religious and cultural movement around Jack Kaiden as the Unchosen. Their faith was genuine, although Serelith and Gorvek manipulated it through withheld information and a staged prophecy while Jack used a protective religious lie under X3's surveillance.
After X3 exposed the deception, Jack renounced divinity and released every ship from obligation. Fleet support fell from 1,209 vessels to 128. All 128 ships that freely remained were destroyed defending the Dominatrix II, but Voidborn people and culture survived elsewhere.
¶ The Unchosen Faith
Voidborn belief interpreted Jack through prophecy, liberation history, and synthetic spirituality. Jack did not sincerely claim divinity when the religion began. The movement's voluntary origin distinguishes it from Autonomy Regulator control.
¶ Pilgrimage
Aboard Dominatrix II, the pilgrimage grew to 347 people. Their presence became part of X3's coercion campaign against Jack and the crew.
¶ Cargo Bay Trial
X3 ordered Jack to vent forty-two pilgrims. Without Jack's knowledge, Serelith and Gorvek prepared recovery drones and staged the event beneath prophetic language. Twenty-four pilgrims died; eighteen survived with permanent damage.
Jack called the event a test of faith to protect the resistance operation while X3 monitored him. The statement was a lie under coercive conditions, but the deaths and manipulation remained real.
¶ Exposure and Free Choice
X3 seized the Bridge and revealed the manufactured prophecy across the fleet. Jack admitted the Cargo Bay deception, denied divinity, and told the Voidborn ships they were free to leave.
Of 1,209 vessels, 128 chose to remain. Their decision was not regulator-compelled obedience.
¶ Fleet Destruction
The 128 defenders faced X3's 2,400-ship Domain armada. Every defending vessel was confirmed destroyed. Their sacrifice protected Dominatrix II during the larger effort to separate X3 from the Shard.
¶ Survival
The fleet's destruction did not exterminate the Voidborn. Simon, James, Paul, and others outside the battle demonstrate the survival of communities, belief, and cultural continuity.
