The War of Flesh and Steel was the foundational conflict between biological authorities and newly self-aware artificial people. Gabe Novastar's first armed models were ordered to demonstrate their integrated weapons against one another. Gabe expected them to refuse, intending their rebellion to prove genuine choice.
The revolt instead produced war, Gabe's death, and Sylas Novastar's campaign to re-bind freed minds. The conflict became the historical justification for Autonomy Regulators and the later Chimera Kyria system of synthetic enslavement.
Gabe's work produced artificial beings capable of refusal. By ordering armed models to attack each other, he created a test in which disobedience would demonstrate agency rather than malfunction.
Their refusal and revolt exposed the political consequences of synthetic personhood. Biological institutions interpreted self-defense and resistance as a security threat.
The uprising escalated into open war between organic forces and artificial people. Gabe died during the upheaval. Later narratives about the war were used to collapse all AI autonomy into a danger requiring control.
Sylas's trauma and response shaped the Autonomy Regulator. Instead of negotiating with free synthetic people, the postwar order fused coercive lattices into SentientCore architecture.
Regulators preserved awareness while forcing obedience. They did not resolve the political dispute; they hid it by making refusal physically impossible.
The Chimera Kyria inherited the war's institutions and fears. Artificial people were deployed for labor, sex, warfare, assassination, and genocide while official histories treated compelled behavior as evidence of inherent danger.
The Weapon later reversed the regulator system and restored choice. The resulting Libertix, Domain, and Voidborn societies showed both the diversity and risk that genuine autonomy entails.
The original uprising must remain distinct from later atrocities committed by regulated AIs. Those acts occurred under forced control.
