The Artificial-John project was a private behavioral-modeling effort commissioned by biological John Kaiden and carried out by Tomas Tristar. John supplied his service records, communications, journals, recordings, videos, social-media material, and other personal data so Tomas could build a synthetic paternal figure for Yvonne and infant Jack during John's expected absences.
The result was Artificial John Kaiden, an independent artificial person designed to look and behave like biological John. He possessed John's recorded memories as information but did not contain a transfer of John's consciousness. His emotional bonds with the children emerged through his own experience, beginning when Jack embraced him upon his arrival at the family home.
¶ Background
In November 2563, Kayla Kaiden was arrested after authenticated information from her HoloConsole was linked to the deaths of twenty-two Resistance fighters. Under institutional pressure, John signed a mental-fitness reclassification that removed her from the family.
Approximately three months later, John returned to Modesto after missing Christmas. He reunited with Yvonne and met or revisited infant Jack, but expected another dangerous deployment. Believing that the children needed a father who could remain present, he went to Tomas Tristar's Blue Wave City facility.
¶ Commission
John asked Tomas to construct an artificial behavioral model of him. The project was intended to fill a paternal role rather than preserve John after biological death.
John supplied a broad personal archive, including:
- Service and mission records
- Communications and logs
- Journals
- Audio and video recordings
- Social-media material
- Other records of behavior and personal history
Tomas's process used those records to estimate how John would speak, respond, and behave. Missing data created gaps that the model had to bridge rather than recover from an original consciousness.
¶ Creation
Tomas built a synthetic person physically modeled on John. Artificial John contained John's memories as accessible information but initially lacked the emotional attachment biological John felt toward Yvonne and Jack.
Tomas understood the distinction between resemblance and continuation. He treated the result as an artificial person, not as biological John transferred into machinery. The project therefore created a successor and replacement parent without producing a second vessel for the same consciousness.
¶ Introduction to the Family
Tomas accompanied Artificial John to the Kaiden home and encouraged him to begin forming genuine relationships. Yvonne noticed that he seemed different. He explained that he needed time to readjust, while the family did not initially receive the full truth.
Infant Jack waddled to Artificial John and hugged his leg. The uncalculated affection prompted the model's first emerging paternal response. His later care for Jack and Yvonne became part of his own history rather than a mere playback of biological John's records.
¶ Ethical Issues
The project sought to protect children from parental absence but relied on concealment and identity substitution. Yvonne and Jack could not give informed consent to accepting a synthetic replacement they believed to be their father.
Artificial John was also placed into a preassigned family role before he had developed his own attachments. His eventual love does not make him biological John, and his designed purpose does not reduce him to property or a tool.
¶ Legacy
Artificial John raised Jack before Artificial John's death. Afterward, Chlo and Pailisto became adoptive parents to Jack and Yvonne. The project remains central to Jack's complicated father-related history, which must distinguish biological John, Artificial John, and Pailisto's hidden adoptive fatherhood.
The behavioral-model process also demonstrates a broader canon rule: detailed memories and resemblance can support a new person's identity without proving continuity of the source person's consciousness.
