Colonel Starling is a rogue military officer who tries to profit from the capture of Pailisto Stellarrend. He operates with soldiers, the psionic adviser Onyx, and a transactional arrangement involving Kroven Vaskyr.
¶ Australis confrontation
Starling receives Kroven aboard the Australis and expects him to help deliver Pailisto for a bounty. When the ship is damaged, Starling, Onyx, and Kroven attempt to escape through the smoke-filled corridors. Onyx uses mental control to influence Kroven's choice, while Andryanos intervenes to preserve Kroven's agency.
An explosion traps Starling beneath wreckage. The escaping group leaves him behind while rescuing Pailisto, ending Starling's immediate attempt to collect the bounty. The canon establishes the confrontation and his abandonment but does not provide a confirmed later fate.
