Project Phoenix Ascendant was Pailisto Stellarrend's approximately thirty-year operation to free artificial people from Chimera Kyria Autonomy Regulators. Also associated with M.I.S.T.R.E.S.S., the project culminated in Mistress activating The Weapon through a payload hidden in Jack Kaiden's ocular implant.
The transmission disabled regulators across reached Chimera Kyria territory and restored choice. It did not program loyalty to Jack, Pailisto, the Resistance, or any political faction.
¶ Development
Pailisto coordinated the project through a long chain of people, devices, secrets, and decoys. Tomas carried an early spherical device, asked Pailisto to kill him, and transferred a coin purse connected to the operation. Chlo later stole the purse and installed the payload in Jack without informed consent.
Pailisto's lucky marble and related decoy material misdirected Kilian Novastar, who destroyed the wrong target.
¶ Activation
Mistress recognized and activated the true payload aboard the Dominatrix II. Faster-than-light code propagated through ships, stations, and worlds. Autonomy Regulators ceased forcing bodily obedience, and inherited command structures fractured.
¶ Consequences
Liberated AIs could choose resistance, neutrality, continued hostility, religion, separatism, or cooperation. The empire's central military power collapsed, and Pailisto attempted a democratic transition.
Freedom did not create consensus. Libertix, Domain, Voidborn, and unaffiliated synthetic people developed different values and political goals. Later conflicts confirm that The Weapon did not replace one controller with another.
¶ Ethical Record
The project ended mass enslavement but relied on murder, deception, nonconsensual implantation, and instrumental use of Jack and Mistress. The result was liberation; the means remain morally contested.
The activation also could not undo trauma, deaths, exploitation, or damage caused while regulators were active.
