Kilian Novastar is the leader of the Chimera Kyria and the father of Skyler Novastar. His rule depends on military power, inherited wealth, and the coerced obedience of artificial intelligence enforced through Autonomy Regulators.
Kilian commands the Chimera Kyria from the CKSS Horizon, an enormous mothership built to support the empire's military leadership and richest elites. The regulated AIs throughout his territory are treated as instruments of state power rather than people capable of consent.
Kilian's history is bound to the Kaiden family. Jack Kaiden reaches the Horizon believing Kilian responsible for the death of his father, John Kaiden, although later evidence complicates Jack's understanding of what happened to biological John.
The Weapon disables Autonomy Regulators across Chimera Kyria territory without programming loyalty or belief into the people it frees. Aboard the Horizon, the newly autonomous AIs turn against Kilian and pin him to the deck of the bridge, ending the obedience on which his authority depended.
Jack confronts Kilian on the bridge of the CKSS Horizon. After declaring that his action is for his father, Jack fires a plasma-bolt rifle into Kilian's chest and kills him. The execution is an act of personal vengeance rather than a judicial sentence, and Jack immediately struggles with the moral weight of his choice.
Kilian's death becomes both a celebrated wartime victory and a disputed political act. Later public discussion distinguishes justice from vengeance, while Jack's responsibility for the killing remains a subject used in political conflict.
Kilian's death accompanies the apparent collapse of central Chimera Kyria power, but it does not eliminate the regime's surviving networks or inherited infrastructure. Skyler studies footage of the execution, sees Kilian restrained by the AIs he once controlled, and begins pursuing contact with the Jinn. Other remnants, including Kjersten Borsach, continue to shape later conflicts.
