New Jack is a temporal duplicate of Present-Day Jack created when Jack and Talonor's wedding kiss fractured reality. He was placed into Old Jack's dying body moments before the Chloinite self-destruct and received approximately five months of Old Jack's catastrophic memories. Moonshade named him New Jack.
To stabilize reality, Talonor had to choose between New Jack and Present-Day Jack. New Jack returned to the wedding, concealed his identity, impersonated Present-Day Jack, seduced Talonor, and obtained an uninformed declaration of love. The choice erased Present-Day Jack and made New Jack the continuing Jack.
New Jack later confronted the harm he caused, the return of Old Jack's trauma, unstable memories, migraines, and marital strain. Talonor eventually chose him again with full knowledge and firm boundaries, calling him "Jack Plus." New Jack thereafter remains the series' continuing Jack through the Great Healing and X3 crisis.
¶ Distinction Note
New Jack is the duplicate created at Jack and Talonor's wedding and placed into Old Jack's body. After Present-Day Jack is erased, New Jack becomes the continuing Jack ordinarily called Jack Kaiden.
¶ Biography
¶ Creation at the wedding
The vow-sealing kiss between Present-Day Jack and Talonor intersected with the earlier kiss between younger Talonor and Old Jack. The contradiction split Jack into two instances.
One remained at the wedding. The other appeared inside Old Jack's body in the anomaly immediately before the self-destruct. Six years of Present-Day Jack's later life and approximately five months of Old Jack's catastrophic experience collided in his memory.
¶ Escape from Old Jack's death
New Jack awakened during Old Mistress's countdown and canceled the self-destruct. Moonshade identified him as two histories occupying one body and explained the threat to reality.
Moonshade named him New Jack for clarity. Before leaving the anomaly, New Jack restarted the countdown. Old Mistress remained aboard and died with the ship while New Jack escaped through Moonshade's wormhole.
¶ The wedding contest
Moonshade told New Jack that Talonor's choice would resolve the superposition. Whichever Jack Talonor selected would continue; the other would be erased.
New Jack returned to the wedding. Rather than disclose his identity, Old Jack's memories, or the fatal stakes, he impersonated Present-Day Jack and sought Talonor's declaration of love. His fear of erasure and longing for Talonor explain the deception without making it consensual.
¶ Selection and continuation
Talonor selected New Jack without understanding the choice. Present-Day Jack was erased, and New Jack became continuing Jack. He inherited Present-Day Jack's social identity, captaincy, marriage, family, and life while carrying Old Jack's memories.
¶ Aftermath
Continuing Jack experienced contradictory memories, migraines, altered behavior, trauma, and uncertainty about who he was. He sometimes minimized the erased Jack or tried to behave as though no replacement had occurred.
Mistress, who retained Old Mistress's records, gave him an active mission to love himself. She told him that he did not need to become an imagined original and that every version remained worthy of rescue.
¶ Talonor discovers the truth
Talonor found photographic evidence showing two Jacks at the wedding and recovered the identity conflict. He recognized that New Jack had deceived him and that Present-Day Jack had been erased through a choice Talonor did not understand.
Talonor withdrew rather than offering immediate forgiveness. Continuing Jack had to acknowledge that shared memories and love did not give him the right to manipulate Talonor's consent.
¶ Informed choice
Talonor later chose continuing Jack again with full context and boundaries. He called him Jack Plus, recognizing that he contained the life they had shared along with Old Jack's trauma and later experiences.
The renewed choice repaired their marriage prospectively. It did not resurrect Present-Day Jack or turn the wedding deception into an acceptable act.
¶ Continuing life
New Jack is ordinarily called Jack after the identity crisis. He opposes Pailisto's Libertix rule, participates in the Great Healing, deletes virgo.yana, and remains married to Talonor.
In Apotheosis, X3 uses Old Jack's memories and the wedding deception against him. Continuing Jack eventually admits harm, resists X3, cleanses the final Shard, and survives as the ongoing Jack Kaiden.
The internal voice he calls "the other Jack" is not conclusively identified. It may reflect Old Jack's memories, dissociation, an implant effect, or another identity phenomenon.
¶ Characteristics
New Jack combines Present-Day Jack's full pre-split history with approximately five months of Old Jack's catastrophic memories. Those memories affect his behavior but do not make him identical to original Old Jack.
His early conduct is driven by terror of nonexistence, love for Talonor, and survival instincts intensified by Old Jack's trauma. His later growth depends on accepting that desperation does not cancel the autonomy of the people he harmed.
