Talonor Kaiden is a Vulfgarr bartender, security specialist, combatant, and participant in the Great Healing of Talonorium. He serves aboard the Dominatrix and Dominatrix II and is married to Jack Kaiden. His actions help change the catastrophic future encountered inside the temporal anomaly, preserve Jack through multiple crises, and cleanse connected Talonorium across the universe.
Talonor is defined by the tension between enormous physical power and deliberate emotional care. He survives anti-gay mutilation, claustrophobia, nanite subjugation, catastrophic injury, unwanted Talonorium attunement, and repeated attempts to use his life or love as leverage against Jack. He can be terrifyingly violent, but his strongest role in the series is as an advocate for context, consent, mercy, and the right to remain complicated after trauma.
He is also a professional bartender with thousands of drinks committed to memory, an alarming approach to improvised Christmas decorations, and enough confidence to suggest disguising an armed strike team as carolers. Not every Talonor plan succeeds, but very few are boring.
¶ Distinction Note
This article concerns the continuing Talonor Kaiden. Old Talonor, the catastrophic-timeline instance whose body sustains Old Jack inside the temporal anomaly, is a distinct person and should receive a separate article.
¶ Identity
Talonor is a Vulfgarr man. He is massively muscular and minotaur-like, with a muzzle, hooves, a tail, horns, humanoid hands, great height, and immense physical strength. He wears a gold septum ring in early appearances.
At least one of Talonor's horns is broken as punishment for his homosexuality within Vulfgarr culture. Starship Dominatrix repeatedly identifies the left horn as broken, while Solace describes him touching a broken right horn. The accounts do not conclusively establish whether both horns are damaged, so the exact extent remains unresolved.
Talonor later takes the surname Kaiden through his marriage to Jack. The series does not supply a confirmed birth date or exact age.
¶ Early Life and Blue Wave City
Talonor comes from a Vulfgarr culture in which his homosexuality is physically marked through the breaking of a horn. The exact circumstances, perpetrators, and date of the punishment are not established, but the injury remains visible and culturally legible.
By late 2593, Talonor works as a bartender at the Viva Rollers Hotel and Casino in Blue Wave City. He dislikes his manager, takes pride in skilled drink preparation, and wants to leave the casino. He is familiar with alcohol from many worlds and later describes himself as a self-taught bartender who knows approximately 4,200 drinks from Bartender's Guide to the Galaxy.
Talonor develops a sexual and romantic relationship with Jack Kaiden. He treats Jack with warmth, physical affection, humor, and confidence, but is hurt when Jack initially denies that they are boyfriends. He accepts the opportunity to join the Dominatrix, intending to operate a Cargo Bay bar while traveling.
Talonor experiences severe claustrophobia in small spacecraft and uses medication or relaxants to endure extended voyages. He creates or uses larger physical spaces, including a storage-bay gym, to manage confinement and maintain his strength.
¶ Solace
On December 24, 2593, Talonor lives with Jack in Apex Tower in West Valley City. Their shared apartment and queen-sized bed are poorly suited to Talonor's size, but their domestic life is established and intimate.
Talonor wakes when Jack leaves their bed during a recurring Christmas Eve crisis. He finds Jack drinking Vulfgarr whiskey with a loaded plasma-bolt pistol and recognizes the danger immediately. Talonor intervenes with fear, patience, and direct emotional honesty. He tells Jack that trauma does not define him and that suicide would not end the grief but pass it to Talonor.
Jack puts down the weapon. Talonor comforts him, tells him that he loves him, calls him his everything, and brings him back to bed. The intervention establishes Talonor's ability to protect Jack without reducing him to his illness or treating love as a magical cure.
¶ Starship Dominatrix
Talonor leaves Io Station aboard the Dominatrix as its bartender, cook, and prospective Cargo Bay bar operator. He makes drinks and food, including buttered ramen for Jack, and uses missing provisions to help expose Andryanos as a stowaway.
He also becomes one of the crew's principal physical protectors. At Io Station, he shields Pailisto from guards and an attacking crowd. When Kroven uses the anti-Vulfgarr slur “snook,” Talonor demands an apology and physically coerces it, demonstrating that his opposition to humiliation does not always remain nonviolent.
Aboard the Australis, Talonor is disabled with an EMP ferrofluid bag and struck by six nanite subjugators. He recognizes the technology and begs not to endure it again, indicating earlier traumatic exposure. He tears at his own fur and flesh trying to remove the nanites, then submits when a soldier threatens Jack.
After Jack frees him, Talonor kills six soldiers in an extreme protective rage, including impaling one with his broken horn. He stops when he sees Jack's fear, expresses remorse, and says he never wanted Jack to see him that way. The sequence leaves the relative influence of nanites, panic, prior trauma, combat conditions, and protective rage unresolved, but it does not present the violence as emotionally consequence-free.
Talonor later suffers another claustrophobic crisis inside a damaged lift, takes a plasma wound while fighting controlled artificial intelligence, and carries an injured Pailisto to safety. On Altair III, he runs into the forest to release panic and rage. He kills an attacking animal, is shot by its owner, and retreats rather than escalating the first-contact disaster further.
¶ The Temporal Anomaly
When Jack becomes trapped inside a temporal anomaly, Talonor advocates entering it despite the danger. There the crew meets Old Jack, a catastrophic-timeline version who has survived the deaths of his crew and prolonged starvation.
Talonor learns that Old Talonor deliberately sacrificed himself and offered his body as food so Old Jack could survive. He initially reacts with horror and panic, but refuses to define Old Jack by cannibalism committed after Old Talonor's death and after every other food source was exhausted.
Talonor comforts Old Jack, explicitly forgives him, says he loves him, and accepts a final kiss. The kiss is described as Talonor's first and creates a fate-changing event that Andryanos had never foreseen. It alters later choices sufficiently for present Jack, rather than Talonor, to survive the Chimera Kyria embassy attack.
Old Jack remains behind to destroy the anomaly and an approaching Chimera Kyria fleet. Talonor grieves him as a real person and objects when present Jack minimizes the loss as a paradox. He temporarily withdraws from physical intimacy with Jack while processing love, grief, and the existence of another version of their relationship.
¶ The Weapon and the Fall of the Chimera Kyria
Talonor reconciles with Jack during a safari in Pod 834. He accompanies Jack to the Chimera Kyria embassy and throws himself between Jack and a plasma bolt fired by Z-1408. The shot completely destroys his biological heart.
Dr. Morgan Ellis preserves Talonor in stasis, aided by Vulfgarr oxidized-blood physiology, and creates a nanotechnology-replicated replacement heart and a metal chest plate. Talonor's survival is concealed from Jack for three days while Pailisto and Andryanos continue manipulating Jack toward the Weapon mission.
Talonor interrupts Jack's resulting suicide attempt and reveals that he is alive. He urges Jack to complete the mission for Bowox and the Resistance. After the Weapon disables Chimera Kyria Autonomy Regulators and restores artificial intelligence agency, Talonor opens the Cargo Bay bar at The Sphere and serves its first customer.
He accepts a new position as a security and intelligence officer aboard Dominatrix II.
¶ Inheritance
Talonor continues as Jack's partner and protector during the renewed Chimera Kyria conflict, the search for biological John Kaiden, and MasterCode's occupation of Mistress and Dominatrix II. He supports the crew through conflicts involving Grivoral, the Jinn alliance, the Resistance, and the loss of Derek Shane and Una.
During the battle in Kathargan, Talonor proposes to Jack. The proposal site develops a spacetime fissure that is repaired by a Maitdiné, binding their relationship even more tightly to the series' temporal and Talonorium crises.
Approximately four years later, Talonor marries Jack. Their vow-sealing kiss fractures reality and brings unresolved identities from the temporal anomaly into the wedding.
¶ The Wedding Identity Crisis
The Jack who reaches the wedding is Present-Day Jack. The kiss creates a second instance placed into Old Jack's body and carrying Old Jack's memories. Moonshade calls this configuration New Jack.
New Jack returns to the wedding and impersonates Present-Day Jack. Talonor is asked to declare which Jack he loves without being given the information necessary to make an informed choice. His declaration selects New Jack, and Present-Day Jack is erased from reality.
Talonor's love is genuine, but the choice obtained at the wedding is not informed. Continuing Jack is therefore the husband Talonor chose under deception, while erased Present-Day Jack is the husband Talonor understood himself to be marrying.
The distinction remains central to their later marriage. Talonor's continued love does not retroactively consent to the deception or transform Present-Day Jack's erasure into a voluntary act.
¶ Flesh and Steel
Talonor suffers an unwanted attunement to Talonorium when he interrupts Jack and Moonshade. The bond gives him a direct role in the worsening Talonorium crisis and the eventual Great Healing.
He discovers photographic evidence showing two Jacks at the wedding and recovers the concealed identity fracture. He confronts continuing Jack and refuses attempts to treat love as proof that the deception did not matter.
Talonor nevertheless chooses to investigate, remain, and eventually rebuild. He supports Jack when Dominatrix II defects from The Sphere and helps restore Moonshade's attunement. At the Temple of Korathis, Talonor joins Jack, Moonshade, and nine crew members in the Great Healing.
Jack and Talonor voluntarily release their attunements. Connected Talonorium is cleansed of The Rot and becomes unwilling to answer weapons. Talonor catches Jack when he collapses after the ritual.
The marriage resumes through disclosure and renewed choice rather than restored innocence. Talonor calls continuing Jack “Jack Plus,” affirms that he loves him, and establishes boundaries around memory, identity, harm, and consent.
¶ A Deadly Little Crisis
On December 24, 2600, Talonor decorates the Dominatrix II Galley for Christmas using salvaged components, glow sticks, a broken antenna array, plasma grenades, and a crystallized Aetherium core. The display reflects his belief that Christmas represents family and light in darkness, while also creating what could generously be described as a safety concern.
Talonor accompanies Jack and synthetic crew members during an assault on raiders who stole supplies from an Eisgait colony. He asks whether the mission requires killing every raider, suggests approaching as carolers, and argues that mercy prevents protectors from becoming the monsters they oppose.
He ultimately follows Jack's attack plan and kills eight raiders. When Jack prepares to execute the surrendered Frosnik Volzen, Talonor again argues for mercy. Jack spares Frosnik after Branel steps between them.
¶ Apotheosis
X3 implants a cardiac kill switch in Talonor's replacement heart and uses the threat of killing him to coerce Jack. Jack initially flinches from affection under surveillance, and Talonor later learns why. Dr. Morgan Ellis covertly removes the device without X3 realizing it, giving the crew room to build a counteroperation.
Talonor maintains ordinary affection so X3 will not detect a change. He helps Jack communicate under surveillance, supports the dual-boot implant deception, and participates in care surrounding Jack's medication, migraines, and deteriorating judgment.
The Voidborn religion names Talonor the Keeper of the Threshold and the horned consort of the Unchosen. Talonor admits pilgrims to Jack's quarters and helps manage a situation in which ordinary marriage behavior is repeatedly converted into sacred doctrine.
When Jack stops medication and urgently seeks sex as proof that treatment has not changed him, Talonor recognizes behavior resembling Old Jack's catastrophic-survival pattern. He stops the encounter, says that he wants Jack but will not be used as evidence, and distinguishes care from control. Jack agrees to resume treatment and reconnects more slowly.
X3 abducts Talonor through a wormhole and takes him into the catastrophic-survival timeline. Talonor sees Old Talonor's butchered remains and Old Jack unconscious beside them. X3 presents the scene as proof that Jack is unlovable.
Talonor rejects the manipulation. He explains that Old Talonor consented to the sacrifice, that Old Jack acted only after death and starvation, and that context is precisely what X3 omitted. He says he would make the same choice again and kisses Old Jack's forehead.
X3 later abducts Jack and Talonor into Jack's childhood trauma and argues that programming and trauma eliminate moral choice. Talonor remains with Jack through the confrontation and returns with him.
After X3 exposes the Voidborn deception, kills Chlo, and is eventually separated from the corrupted Shard, Talonor remains with continuing Jack. Mistress later explains more of the Old Jack encounter. Talonor preserves the difference between inherited memory, present behavior, love, and informed consent rather than treating any one of them as a complete answer.
