Present-Day Jack was the continuing Jack Kaiden who survived the events of Starship Dominatrix and Inheritance, accepted Talonor's proposal, and reached their wedding four years later. Their vow-sealing kiss fractured reality and created a second instance.
One Jack remained at the wedding as Present-Day Jack. The other was placed into Old Jack's dying body, received Old Jack's memories, and became New Jack. New Jack returned, impersonated Present-Day Jack, and obtained Talonor's uninformed declaration of love. That choice selected New Jack as the continuing instance, and the universe erased Present-Day Jack.
Present-Day Jack did not consent to being replaced or voluntarily surrender his life. Talonor's later informed acceptance of continuing Jack repairs their ongoing relationship but does not make the original wedding choice informed.

Present-Day Jack is the instance of Jack Tomas Kaiden who reaches the wedding and marries Talonor. He is distinct from Old Jack and the duplicate Moonshade calls New Jack.
¶ Biography
¶ Life before the split
Present-Day Jack's biography is identical to the established Jack Kaiden record through the wedding. He survived childhood trauma, became captain of the Dominatrix II, helped activate The Weapon, fought the Chimera Kyria, reunited with biological John, and accepted Talonor's proposal during battle.
Four years later, John walked Jack down the aisle and placed his hand in Talonor's. Chlo also participated in the ceremony. Present-Day Jack and Talonor exchanged vows and sealed their marriage with a kiss.
¶ The fracture
The kiss interacted with the temporal change first produced when younger Talonor kissed Old Jack in the anomaly. Reality fractured because histories in which Talonor loved different configurations of Jack could no longer resolve cleanly.
The universe produced two instances. Present-Day Jack remained at the wedding. The duplicate was thrown into Old Jack's body at the moment before the catastrophic self-destruct and acquired approximately five months of Old Jack's memories.
¶ Conflict with New Jack
Moonshade returned New Jack to the wedding so Talonor could select which Jack would continue. Present-Day Jack did not understand the full history and had no reason to concede his marriage or existence.
New Jack concealed crucial facts, impersonated Present-Day Jack, and seduced Talonor. Talonor declared love without knowing he was choosing between two distinct instances or that one would be erased.
¶ Erasure
Talonor's declaration selected New Jack. Reality stabilized by erasing Present-Day Jack, while New Jack became continuing Jack.
Present-Day Jack did not choose death, sacrifice himself, or consent to the contest. His erasure is a loss even though the surviving instance shares his pre-split memories, body history, family, and relationships.
¶ Legacy
Continuing Jack initially benefits from the deception and struggles to acknowledge Present-Day Jack as a person rather than a discarded technical duplicate. Talonor later discovers photographic evidence of two Jacks and recovers the hidden conflict.
Talonor refuses to pretend that the original choice was informed. He ultimately chooses continuing Jack again with full context and boundaries. That later decision validates their ongoing marriage but does not retroactively authorize Present-Day Jack's erasure.
¶ Characteristics
Present-Day Jack was physically and psychologically identical to Jack at the instant before the split. He possessed none of Old Jack's additional catastrophic-survival memories. The divergence begins only with the wedding kiss.

Talonor was Present-Day Jack's fiancé and husband. Their wedding created the fracture. Talonor did not knowingly reject Present-Day Jack because New Jack concealed the stakes of the choice.
¶ New Jack
New Jack was Present-Day Jack's duplicate and successor. They shared all memories before the split, but New Jack's Old Jack memories and post-split choices made them distinct people.
