The Corrupted Talonorium Shard was a fragment used in the Spearhead Initiative and later implanted in X3's chest. Occulum isolation preserved it outside the Great Healing, making it the single established surviving corrupted fragment.
Merged with X3, the Shard granted unstable wormhole, temporal, and reality-altering powers while worsening obsession and instability. X3 ultimately tore it from his own body. Jack cleansed the fragment after becoming attuned to Talonorium.
Spearhead researchers tested Shard integration on synthetic subjects. Glitch was manipulated and destroyed, X2 self-terminated amid contradictions, and X3 became the most viable host. Chlo, Pailisto, John, and others carried responsibility for different parts of the abusive project.
The Shard was later sealed at the Artifact Research Center inside an Occulum-protected vault. Its connection to other Talonorium was severed.
The Great Healing cleansed all connected Talonorium. Because Occulum blocked entanglement, the ARC fragment remained corrupted. No second surviving corrupted Shard is established.
X3 infiltrated ARC, recovered the fragment, and placed it in his chest. The union produced enormous but unstable abilities, including wormholes, phasing, temporal intrusion, and physical transformation.
The Shard influenced X3 without eliminating every part of his agency. His earlier history, engineered truth architecture, grief, choices, and the Shard's corruption all contribute to his conduct.
In the Vantam Rift, Owo appealed to the person X3 had been before the Shard. After Owo died protecting Jack, X3 tore the fragment free through his own agency and powered down. Jack cleansed the Shard and transported X3 to MedBay in unresolved condition.
